Comment: The expansion plan is terrific, as well as neccessary. I would like to see them add on the West side, where there is moderate parking now, a 10 story multi car parking ramp, that annexes to the stadium for easy access and exit. I understand they are considering such at the McDonalds lot directly across the street ......where , and however........get parking facilites on the priority list

Comment: Biggest problem is additional 1,800 seats-how will they get there? Traffic is jammed, trains are packed, are the cubs going to build a nonstop feeder ramp to 90/94? I love this ballpark and part of neighborhood, but it was built in an era with fewer people in an area not designed for huge stadiums. There is NO DIRECT expressway access (Lake Shore is a restricted use & speed road with stoplights!) What fan doesn't love Wrigley the way it is? This is about profits, not fans.

It is only since a native chicgoian friend comes to vist often I will have a chance this thursday to come and see the great Wrigley stadium home of the chicago cubs. Thanks, David Graves

Comment: This expansion(with private funds)will allow one of the true gems of baseball to remain viable, and for the Cubs to remain there. I understand the complaints of Wrigleyville residents, however might I respectfully submit that they were there first. The Cubs have been neighborhood residents since 1916. As for the rooftops,a few lawn chairs weren't a problem. When you need structural steel to construct bleachers, and charge admission, then it becomes something more than catching a game(which it has).

Comment: As a lifelong cub fan, and beer vendor at Wrigley Field for the past several years it is quite obvious that from time to time Wrigley will need to be renovated and expanded. My grandfather went to games in the 20's when the park was completely different. All good things change with time. Its obnoxious to think that Wrigley has reached its peak, and we shouldn't mess with it. The neighborhood can go to hell. Anyone living in those neighborhoods knew what they were getting into.

Comment: Looks nice, as long as it doesn't change the face of the stadium much ... As for bleachers ... the Cubs should not expand over the sidewalks (or close Waveland or Sheffield) without compensating the owners of the adjacent buildings. Those people bought there because of their location; they deserve their share of the street/sidewalk/view in its current form; they have the right to stand on their roofs with their friends. We shouldn't tax sight, and we shouldn't give Tribune Corp free reign

Comment: I don't really think they should expand Wrigley. I do like that they are going to attempt to keep it looking the same, but I don't see why they are messing with a good thing. Wrigley is the oldest park in the NL and it represents tradition. Something Cubs fans know about. This expansion is just an effort to make more money for the owners. It is the same thing attempting to charge the rooftop owners. Why change something that has always been this way?

Comment: I don't think some of the people that are posting on here realize is that the damned resturant is underneath the bleachers. It will not be visible from the field. As for the expansion of the bleachers, it will add 1-6 rows. That is not a big change. As for the building next door. ..I'm not wild about that, but if it means that they don't have to turn the outfield into a giant ad, then go for it. Also, the rooftop owners should have to share revenues from their skyboxes across the street.

Comment: As long as they don't make Wrigley Field look like the new Soldier Field, I'm for it. I don't understand why the neighbors with rooftop views think they should be able to watch the Cubs for free, LET ALONE make money by selling seats. If I lived across the street from a strip club and could see in their window, wouldn't they have the right to obstruct my view? You bet. The Cubs ought to buy the houses with rooftop views & sell tickets themselves. If the owners won't sell, block their view.

Comment: This whole bleacher extension/destroy tradition plan is a scam.Wrigley Field is loved for being one of the best stadiums for a reason, be cause it maintains the old baseball feel. There is no reason what so ever to have a frickin restaurant in center field, what is this Comiskey? And you don't need a shopping mall to create more revenue. Build on the team and they will bring in the money, not a ritzy parking lot and mall. Wrigley needs to stay Wrigley.

Comment: Just leave Wrigley alone...there is a reason that it is the best stadium in all of sports - because it's not cluttered with ads, cheesy stadium gimmicks, and the like. It is a landmark and the ways in which it flies in the face of all current stadium trends is part of its charm. Please leave it as it is, Tribune Company...I want to Wrigley to look the same way when I am 70 as I did when I first went there as a little kid. Some things should never change - keep Wrigley timeless.

Comment: Why not allow more Cubs fans to see the game in person? It seems really odd that someone who happens to own a house nearby, has any say in this at all. So go for it and it's too bad you can't add 10,000 seats--what a might roar that would make!

Comment: I think the expansion is a great idea. I think so of you are forgetting that Wrigley Field has been expanded many times since it began as a 14,000 seat stadium. What if Wrigley didnt add lights for night games? The new homeplate seats are the best seats in the houe. In order to stay comepetitive, the Cubs need to generate revenue to stay competitive with all the teams with new stadiums that can seat 45,000+. Yankee stadium seats almost 60,000 and they generate almost 300 mil in revenue.

Comment: I LOVE ballparks, and think that Wrigley and Fenway are at the top of the list in all they contribute to the experience. That being said, I don't live in the past, and I like changes that improve the experience. Like the Green Monster Seats at Fenway. Brilliant. I think this Wrigley expansion -- bleacher seats, pedestrian promenade, and all -- will be fantastic. If they keep in the style of the architecture and neighborhood, adding ivy and brickwork, it will be a beautiful thing.

Comment: They should tear that old dump down. Then build a new stadium away from there. I know Wrigley brings joy to baseball fans but it is really one of the reasons that the Cubs don't win. Give the area back to the locals and all you will have is a bunch of taverns. You can't play the majority of games in the daytime with all of the traveling that is needed. As far as the product that is out on the field that is the property of the Trib and the roof-top owners should pay.

Comment: Go for the expansion. Now if the city and the local people don't like the Cub's plan then the Tribune should dump Wrigley and build a new stadium. A brand new stadium would generate more revenue with the parking fee's that the Cub's should be taking in instead of the lack of parking that Wrigley presently has. Let the rooftop owners watch the old ball park. Give the neighborhood back to the people that are alway's complaining about the excessive amount of day games.

When the bleachers are expanded, "Wrigley Mall" takes the place of Waveland Ave., and a restaurant takes the place of the centerfield bushes, all of which have been proposed by Cubs management, it will no longer be Wrigley. This summer I took the L with a friend to the bleachers for the first time and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Once the bleachers are "improved" they won't hold the same meaning

I think that the Tribune Co. should do what the Yankees have done twice to Yankee Stadium and recently to Soldier Field. This would allow a modern facility while keeping all of the attributes that people love about Wrigley. What everyone has to realize is that sooner or later the end of wrigley will happen, why not embrace it and try to allow as much as possible to live on?

That change alone would decide my vote. I love the Wrigley facade at Clark and Addison - dominates the intersection and screams history. How will a massive structure just to the left alter that perception? Sounds dangerous. I don't think 5% is worth the risk to such a perfect place!

The extra 2,000 that would be in the park are probably already in Wrigleyville at a bar on game day. The added seats around home plate was done tastefully and most people can't tell the difference. I say if they keep the same concept for the bleacher add-on Wrigley will just improve.

Part of the feeling you get when you go to a game there is because of the age. Perhaps it can be upgraded and still left with enough of what makes us all so sentimental about it. Comment: Most of you don't seem to understand the concept of cause and effect. Adding seats would gain more revenue in the short run, but eventually Wrigley would lose its aura, the Cubs purists, and the tourists that flock into the stadium. And what happends when the Cubs suck again? There go the bandwagons. After these groups are gone, who's left to fill the seats now? No one. The first step was cheating the rooftop owners, the next is bleacher expansion. And for what? Maddux? What a joke.

The Trib was too boneheaded to realize what a profitable business the rooftops would be, and now they want in because they see how much they could've made off the incoming bandwagon Cubs fans. If you think the rooftop owners are turning the tradition into big business, think again. My cousin owns a building, and he's not even making much; but he's the biggest Cubs fan you'll ever meet.

And I'm afraid Daley doesn't see whats happening. All the politicians are afraid of the Tribune and the damage their articles can do so these politicians are kissing up to the Tribune in hopes for good press. Comment: I hate the congestion in the neighborhood, but the amount of taxes that the Cubs generates for the city is SUBSTANTIAL. An expansion would increase revenue which in turn help reduce our future tax increases. And to lessen the congestion that would be created, the city MUST create an exit on Lake Shore Drive at Addison and expand Addison to be fully four lanes from Clark to LSD. Rooftop owners should NEVER pay the Cubs but they should not be able to prevent the Cubs from upward expansion of WF.

Comment: I'm a White Sox fan, not a Cubs fan, but Wrigley is the greatest stadium in the country. That, and the neighborhood, is something the Cubs have that we don't. The rooftops are part of that. And in an urban neighborhood like Wrigleyville, people shouldn't be driving to games anyway... that's what the L is for. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Wrigley is great because it's an old-school ballpark. You can ONLY make it worse by changing it. I don't want to bring up the example of Soldier...

I do not live in Chicago so do not have any motives except that my Cubbies be the greatest team in MLB. That is not measured by W's & L's but by attracting the young LIFETIME fan. If they add 12 night games now they'll add more later. Remember the other team has an = or greater tiring disadvantage.

Notice the Mayor had no problem begging Springfield for the money to build that worst ballpark in baseball on the South Side. Now the Cubs want to expand THEIR stadium with THEIR money and there is a problem where?? As for the residence I can see why they would be against the parking garage $20 to $30 a vehicle for parking in their yard.

I would be cautious as to how it is done, and not infringe upon the neighborhood too much, as that contributes to the atmosphere. It should be limited to adding seats, not adding gimmicks or sideshows.

So what if pro athletes like to party and stay out late, the rest of America has to get up and go to work in the morning. Here in Chicago, we've got both ends of the specturm with Wrigley on the North side representing tradition and baseball's huge legacy, and Sox park on the South side representing the new, the progressive, the move into the future. So let's learn from that. Altering Wrigley will only ruin the best baseball team in the world. Even if they are in last place, the Cubs never run out of fans and support. People will always come to the games. But if you change the atmosphere, you run the risk of losing that faithful following. And that can only hurt the Cubs.

But by blocking the view of the rooftops on Wavelend Ave., the construction would in fact alter that famous aspect of the park. It is part of the character of Wrigley Field the same as the scoreboard and ivy. The Cubs are as much a part of Wrigley as they are a part of baseball. If you change the park, you change the team.

The bleacher expansion would wrongly crossover onto the streets and block out the frontages of the apartments and some rooftops which are a part of the Wrigley mystique. The Hall of Fame and other facilities behind the 3rd Base/Left Field line stands would cast all of that seating on the lower level into permanent darkness by blocking out the rear light. Leave Wrigley as is and preserve baseball's and the Cubs' history.

Build new multi-level Parking Lots for both RESIDENTS & FANS. This could & would lead to the Redevelopment & Rezoning of the affected outlying area. The CITY could rebuild it's aging infrastructure. Henceforth, LOTS OF NEW CONSTRUCTION = MORE TAX MONEY. LOTS OF JOBS=MORE PROSPERITY. P. S. 48,000 x $ 24.00 = $ 1,152,000 x 7 % = $ 80,600 agame

This would allow the CUBS to expand the bleachers most effectively and even create area's for bullpens and tarps. Redevelop the district for better parking for all involved. Now if the sox fan at the head of City would work for the best interest of the City & County. Instead of throwing good money after bad as they did in the SOX fiasco. This would be Good after Good.

All Cub fans should ban the Wrigley Field Premium tickets, Inc. for they are screwing the average Cub fans out of game day tickets. If nobody would buy from this phony ticket brokerage, than these tickets could go back to the Cubs and be sold as game day tickets the way those tickets were meant to be sold - On Game Day. Ever since the Cubs have existed they have sold these tickets on game day. Do Not buy from Premium broker.

Comment: It is the Tribune's ballpark and the Tribune's ball club. I love Wrigley and I love the Cubs more. I've even flown out there simply to see a game. But the Tribune knows what draws people to their park and they won't do anything to "ruin" the atmosphere of Wrigley. Baseball is a business and going to Wrigley helps bring people in to watch a usually "losing" team. Let them do what they want with what they own. We live in a capitalist society so just deal with it.

If it were not for Wrigley Field, the rooftop owners would have NO additional income. They are profiting thanks to the Cubs product and should pay royalties and commissions accordingly. Those commissions should then be pooled towards players salaries. Another idea would be to pay the royalty based on the win % of the team. Rooftop Royalty = No expansion.

If they succeed in barring rooftop patrons for pay, what is to stop them from saying that residents can't go up there? They might as well own the buildings and, if the Tribune owns the neighborhood, the charm of the ballpark and the neighborhood I live in 365 days a year is gone. 500 characters is not enough.

The Trib owns Wrigley, not the neighborhood. The neighborhood is livable and profitable because of the Cubs, and they only want to leach off of it for their own good. There's no give and take. The wind wouldn't be unpredictable, more night games, increased revenue to put back into the team, and better weather conditions in general. This proposal to expand Wrigley increases the revenue the Cubs can put back into the team while stepping up to pay for it themselves as well as help fund increased nighttime security. Considering the fact that the Cubs have put some coin into the landlord's pocket by making the property worth more, they deserve it. But, to ensure that the Tribune Company puts the money toward the ballclub and not for polish for Tom Skilling's head, there should be a clause that the Cubs don't collect the tax from the area landlords unless they finish over .500 once every five years. I have attended at least 1 Cub game a year since 1969 and I usually always sit in the bleachers, maybe more room will let more baseball smart people have a chance to sit in the greatest seats there are and hopefully lessen the amount of Yuppies and bimbo's who do nothing but talk on their cell phones and ignore the game.

The days of the few neighborhood tenents up there with an Old Style(s) are gone. It's time for the rooftops and the Tribune to compromise. The Cubs should get a cut of the rooftop ticket sales, and the Cubs shouldn't make changes to Wrigley that effect the view. By the way, getting this to happen is more likely than Todd Hundley getting more hits than whiffs.

Potential for more trash pileup, pidgeons, less sidewalk to walk on, and homeless people sleeping under the extended bleachers. The revenue that is generated by the organization is easily in the top 1/3 of the MLB yet we never have a top 1/3 team.
