Landmarks Commission approves Cubs’ tweaked expansion plan

The Commission on Chicago Landmarks today gave the green light to the Chicago Cubs’ plan to move the exterior brick walls of right field patio at Wrigley Field further into Sheffield Avenue and than previously approved.

The right field wall, which was approved by the City Council in July to be moved 15 feet closer to the street, now may be moved 25 feet closer to the street, reducing Sheffield Avenue from 33 feet wide to 23 feet wide.

The tweaks to the deal were part of a recent agreement between the team and City Hall under which the Cubs would drop a proposed pedestrian bridge over Clark Street; alter details for its planned hotel; and reduce the total number of potential night games it could host from 46 to 43.
