The construction-heavy area outside Wrigley Field is getting a little more crowded.
Fans heading to the Cubs-White Sox games at Wrigley Field next week will notice a new 1,500-square-foot pop-up shop outside the stadium’s main ticket office along Clark Street.
The team on July 20 began putting the tent-like structure in a space that will eventually be part of an open-air plaza next to the park.
Slated to be ready by July 27, the shop will be a temporary replacement for the former 4,000-square-foot Cubs store across Clark Street from the park, which was cleared away after last season to make room for a new hotel team ownership is building on the property.
Cubs spokesman Julian Green said the new store will be open through the end of the season, with plans beyond that to be determined.
The team envisions a permanent merchandise store in either the new office building going up at the north end of the plaza or in the hotel, though plans have not yet been finalized.
