The Ricketts family’s growing empire in Wrigleyville now has a sales firm to tie it all together.
The Chicago Cubs owners have formed Marquee Sports & Entertainment, which will oversee sales and events at all the family’s assets in the area and do consulting work for sports and entertainment clients.
In a move aimed at streamlining the family’s ability to take advantage of its growing footprint around Wrigley Field, the new agency will be led by Cubs executives and book business across multiple properties, including the team, the Park at Wrigley adjacent to the stadium, rooftop properties beyond the Wrigley Field bleachers and the new Hotel Zachary set to open next year across the street from the ballpark.
The new entity brings a formal structure to what the Ricketts family has been slowly building for a number of years around the Cubs: a burgeoning entertainment district rife with new revenue opportunities for the family. The Cubs have been able to sign more lucrative sponsorship deals with their top sponsors, for example, by combining traditional assets inside Wrigley Field like signage with other opportunities outside the park, such as brick-and-mortar stores.
