Comment: The expansion plan is terrific, as well as neccessary.
I would like to see them add on the West side, where there
is moderate parking now, a 10 story multi car parking ramp,
that annexes to the stadium for easy access and exit. I
understand they are considering such at the McDonalds lot
directly across the street ......where , and however........get
parking facilites on the priority list

Comment: Biggest problem is additional 1,800 seats-how will
they get there? Traffic is jammed, trains are packed, are
the cubs going to build a nonstop feeder ramp to 90/94?
I love this ballpark and part of neighborhood, but it was
built in an era with fewer people in an area not designed
for huge stadiums. There is NO DIRECT expressway access
(Lake Shore is a restricted use & speed road with stoplights!)
What fan doesn't love Wrigley the way it is? This is about
profits, not fans.

the country and have not seen Wrigley. This is strange considering
I only live a short drive away. It is only since a native
chicgoian friend comes to vist often I will have a chance
this thursday to come and see the great Wrigley stadium
home of the chicago cubs. Thanks, David Graves

Comment: This expansion(with private funds)will allow one
of the true gems of baseball to remain viable, and for the
Cubs to remain there. I understand the complaints of Wrigleyville
residents, however might I respectfully submit that they
were there first. The Cubs have been neighborhood residents
since 1916. As for the rooftops,a few lawn chairs weren't
a problem. When you need structural steel to construct bleachers, and
charge admission, then it becomes something more than catching
a game(which it has).

Field for the past several years it is quite obvious that
from time to time Wrigley will need to be renovated and
expanded. My grandfather went to games in the 20's when
the park was completely different. All good things change
with time. Its obnoxious to think that Wrigley has reached
its peak, and we shouldn't mess with it. The neighborhood
can go to hell. Anyone living in those neighborhoods knew
what they were getting into.

of the stadium much ... As for bleachers ... the Cubs should
not expand over the sidewalks (or close Waveland or Sheffield)
without compensating the owners of the adjacent buildings.
Those people bought there because of their location; they
deserve their share of the street/sidewalk/view in its current
form; they have the right to stand on their roofs with their
friends. We shouldn't tax sight, and we shouldn't give Tribune
Corp free reign

Comment: I don't really think they should expand Wrigley.
I do like that they are going to attempt to keep it looking
the same, but I don't see why they are messing with a good
thing. Wrigley is the oldest park in the NL and it represents
tradition. Something Cubs fans know about. This expansion
is just an effort to make more money for the owners. It
is the same thing attempting to charge the rooftop owners.
Why change something that has always been this way?

on here realize is that the damned resturant is underneath
the bleachers. It will not be visible from the field. As
for the expansion of the bleachers, it will add 1-6 rows.
That is not a big change. As for the building next door.
..I'm not wild about that, but if it means that they don't
have to turn the outfield into a giant ad, then go for it.
Also, the rooftop owners should have to share revenues from
their skyboxes across the street.

the neighbors with rooftop views think they should be able
to watch the Cubs for free, LET ALONE make money by selling
seats. If I lived across the street from a strip club and
could see in their window, wouldn't they have the right
to obstruct my view? You bet. The Cubs ought to buy the
houses with rooftop views & sell tickets themselves. If
the owners won't sell, block their view.

plan is a scam.Wrigley Field is loved for being one of the
best stadiums for a reason, be cause it maintains the old
baseball feel. There is no reason what so ever to have a
frickin restaurant in center field, what is this Comiskey?
And you don't need a shopping mall to create more revenue.
Build on the team and they will bring in the money, not
a ritzy parking lot and mall. Wrigley needs to stay Wrigley.

The plans are tasteful and in line with the historic architecture

get more people into the park and out of the bars.

so of you are forgetting that Wrigley Field has been expanded
many times since it began as a 14,000 seat stadium. What
if Wrigley didnt add lights for night games? The new homeplate
seats are the best seats in the houe. In order to stay comepetitive,
the Cubs need to generate revenue to stay competitive with
all the teams with new stadiums that can seat 45,000+. Yankee
stadium seats almost 60,000 and they generate almost 300
mil in revenue.

beautiful thing.

a new stadium away from there. I know Wrigley brings joy
to baseball fans but it is really one of the reasons that
the Cubs don't win. Give the area back to the locals and
all you will have is a bunch of taverns. You can't play
the majority of games in the daytime with all of the traveling
that is needed. As far as the product that is out on the
field that is the property of the Trib and the roof-top
owners should pay.

people don't like the Cub's plan then the Tribune should
dump Wrigley and build a new stadium. A brand new stadium
would generate more revenue with the parking fee's that
the Cub's should be taking in instead of the lack of parking
that Wrigley presently has. Let the rooftop owners watch
the old ball park. Give the neighborhood back to the people
that are alway's complaining about the excessive amount
of day games.

I think that the Tribune Co. should do what the Yankees
have done twice to Yankee Stadium and recently to Soldier

all of the attributes that people love about Wrigley. What
everyone has to realize is that sooner or later the end

by approx 5%. Will the Trib raise ticket prices to help
pay for expansion? Will a homerun out to Waveland be a thing
of memory? That change alone would decide my vote. I love
the Wrigley facade at Clark and Addison - dominates the
intersection and screams history. How will a massive structure
just to the left alter that perception? Sounds dangerous.

and for those of you who say it will bring more congestion
think about it. The extra 2,000 that would be in the park
are probably already in Wrigleyville at a bar on game day.
The added seats around home plate was done tastefully and

that would just mean even more tickets are not available
to the regular fan. What needs to be done is for the Cubs
organization to weed out the casual fans who are just there
to be seen from the true blue Cub fans who actually go to
Wrigley to watch the game. Also, the Cubs should quit giving
tickets to their own brokerage (Wrigley Field Premium Tickets"

of cause and effect. Adding seats would gain more revenue
in the short run, but eventually Wrigley would lose its
aura, the Cubs purists, and the tourists that flock into
the stadium. And what happends when the Cubs suck again?
There go the bandwagons. After these groups are gone, who's
left to fill the seats now? No one. The first step was cheating
the rooftop owners, the next is bleacher expansion. And

rooftop owners and how they should not have to pay the Cubs.
The Trib was too boneheaded to realize what a profitable
business the rooftops would be, and now they want in because
they see how much they could've made off the incoming bandwagon
Cubs fans. If you think the rooftop owners are turning the
tradition into big business, think again. My cousin owns

Comment: If the Pirates who run the rooftops - the same
ones who claim to speak for the neighborhood - win this
fight, it is a sad day. Let the pirates, who bring in a
lot of people - more people than the amount of extra seats
the Cubs want to add - start paying for a)use of the product
the Cubs produce and b)clean up and security for the neighborhood.
The Cubs have bent over backwards to appease these pirates...let
them start to pay.

Dally has his hands in it or the architects of the Monstrosity

fans to go to the games and from the looks of it, would
not block much of the view from the rooftops. I would like
to see something at Wrigley that Coors Field has with the
Rockpile where seats are $1/seat the day of the game and

Comment: I hate the congestion in the neighborhood, but
the amount of taxes that the Cubs generates for the city
is SUBSTANTIAL. An expansion would increase revenue which
in turn help reduce our future tax increases. And to lessen
the congestion that would be created, the city MUST create
an exit on Lake Shore Drive at Addison and expand Addison
to be fully four lanes from Clark to LSD. Rooftop owners
should NEVER pay the Cubs but they should not be able to
prevent the Cubs from upward expansion of WF.

is the greatest stadium in the country. That, and the neighborhood,
is something the Cubs have that we don't. The rooftops are
part of that. And in an urban neighborhood like Wrigleyville,
people shouldn't be driving to games anyway... that's what
the L is for. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Wrigley is
great because it's an old-school ballpark. You can ONLY
make it worse by changing it. I don't want to bring up the

The City of Chicago draws tremendous tax revenue from the
Cubs directly and the businesses around Wrigley. Notice
the Mayor had no problem begging Springfield for the money
to build that worst ballpark in baseball on the South Side.
Now the Cubs want to expand THEIR stadium with THEIR money
and there is a problem where?? As for the residence I can
see why they would be against the parking garage $20 to

if they weren't here in this neighborhood there would only

Rumor is that the Tribune is suing the roof owners and about
to sue the bar owners and parkibg lots for 1/2 of their
profits. Maybe sue the CTA next for part of the profits
from riders to the Park.Tribunes' motto should be "TODAY

which used to be the oldest park in the country, is now
gone. And the White Sox clearly suck even with their new
park. So let's learn from that. Altering Wrigley will only
ruin the best baseball team in the world. Even if they are
in last place, the Cubs never run out of fans and support.
People will always come to the games. But if you change
the atmosphere, you run the risk of losing that faithful

Comment: The expansion of Wrigley Field must be done properly.
If none of the existing structure is removed, and if none
of the landmark features are altered, then it can be ok.
But by blocking the view of the rooftops on Wavelend Ave.,
the construction would in fact alter that famous aspect
of the park. It is part of the character of Wrigley Field
the same as the scoreboard and ivy. The Cubs are as much
a part of Wrigley as they are a part of baseball. If you
change the park, you change the team.

damage the park. The bleacher expansion would wrongly crossover
onto the streets and block out the frontages of the apartments
and some rooftops which are a part of the Wrigley mystique.
The Hall of Fame and other facilities behind the 3rd Base/Left
Field line stands would cast all of that seating on the
lower level into permanent darkness by blocking out the
rear light. Leave Wrigley as is and preserve baseball's
and the Cubs' history.

Comment: The time has come to change Cubs ownership. It's
time to demand that the Tibune Company sell the Cubs. The
Cubs will never win as long as the Tribune Comapny is running
the show. This is evident by the focus on expansion and
raising ticket prices as opposed to making the team better.
Let's return the joy and mystic of the Cubs to Chicago!

2,000 seats a game is $30,000 a game or $2.4 million a year

The Trib owns Wrigley, not the neighborhood. The neighborhood

not expansion or rooftops, it is what are we going to do
about the increase in theft, litter and public urination.
I have no problem with expansion if we can control the people.
We just had our satelite dish stolen off our roof lasst
night. This is the latest of several incidents. Problems
seem to stem from night game crowds. If we can't control
it now, I can not be in favor of expansion.

how to please everyone. 1. Why doesn't the Tribune Company
use a "local" engineering firm to work out acceptable design
alternatives with "the neighborhood? 2. For example, what's
wrong w/ a cantalivered approach to the columns in the sidewalk
issue? 3. How about (2) 90' by 120', full-color, LED walls.

move to a new suburb stadium more condusive to winning.
The wind wouldn't be unpredictable, more night games, increased
revenue to put back into the team, and better weather conditions
in general. This proposal to expand Wrigley increases the
revenue the Cubs can put back into the team while stepping
up to pay for it themselves as well as help fund increased
nighttime security. This sounds likea win-win to me and
will force them to move if not.

off the apartment buildings. Considering the fact that the
Cubs have put some coin into the landlord's pocket by making
the property worth more, they deserve it. But, to ensure
that the Tribune Company puts the money toward the ballclub
and not for polish for Tom Skilling's head, there should
be a clause that the Cubs don't collect the tax from the
area landlords unless they finish over .500 once every five
years. That sounds reasonable, to me.

do the Cubs want to exapand? The bleachers. Why? Because
the bleachers always sell out. It costs $25 to sit in the

Comment: The rooftops used to be just that...rooftops. A
few guys up on a roof of an adjacent building drinking beer,
and having a good time. At that point in time, noone was
making money off of it. Now people are making money off
of it, and it's not the people that should be making the
money. If anyone should be making money, it should be the
ones putting on the show (the Cubs), and not anyone else.

I don't know if it'll improve the atmosphere at Wrigley
or not, but I'd rather have 2000 more seats in the outfield
then a new ballpark in some crap suburb. And as for the
neighbors, the stadium was there BEFORE you moved in, right?
I can't move into a home and then dictate how late the corner
gas station stays open, can I? And as for the rooftop owners,
maybe I'll start sleeping in your building and not paying
for it. They'd never let that happen

Comment: The Wrigley expansion should proceed immediately.
Whiny neighbors sure don't complain when their property
values skyrocket because of the Cubs. As for the rooftop
owners, hell yes they should pay. They are effectively stealing:
selling admission to an entertainment property they don't
own and don't pay for.

Comment: Wrigley Field has been renovated a number of times
throughout it's history. What they want to do now is NOTHING
compared to the total reworking of the outfield walls in
the 30's. Go for it. Best as I can tell, it won't hurt it's
character , and may actually ad to it. As for the rooftop
owners paying, no way. They are a part of Wrigleyvlle and
it's charm. Bad PR by the Cubs if they try go do it. Pretty
damn petty, too. On the other hand, the RO's shouldn't be
allowed to charge people for seating.

Comment: I'm against it because where they want to build
the seats has been green as long as i can remember and well
frankly thats a part of this park, which is a part of history.
As for paying the cubs for roof top seats thats not up to
the cubs if the people of the buildings dont have them pay
the cubs they could have so that they couldn't use the rooftops
to view games any longer but apperently uncle andy doesn't
care so leave it be. Oh yeah take the link to dumb hundley
off he's coming around know.

Comment: Part of the thrill of seeing a Cubs game is Wrigley
Field. I think they could make some improvements as far
as safety concerns i.e. the sidewalks, etc, but to change
the appearance in a dramatic fashion would be like changing
the Sears Tower, or Buckingham fountain, or any other historic
Chicago landmark. As long as the "changes" are made in good
taste and discreet, then I'm all for it.

Yes ruin! It can't be that the Tribune Company needs the
money. Leave Wrigley the way God intended it to be.

Comment: The Cubs have the right to make improvements to
their ballpark to make it more profitable. Besides it will
only make it harder for opposing teams to play with 2,000
more drunks crammed into the outfield. What the Cubs should
not do is go out of thier way to disrupt the rooftops, these
places are a great part of the area and besides it is not
like there is an attendance problem for the Cubs.

oppose the stadium expansion obviously don't care if the
cubs EVER win a world series. Either that or they are dumb
as hell to think the cubs will be able to win a world series

Comment: The Cubs should be allowed to expand. They are
offering to do it at their own expense. Not like that "other"
team that held it's fans hostage, and could quite possibly
cost all taxpayers in this state $$. Daley should get off
his high horse and help the Cubs however he can. The resurgance
of Lakeview/Wrigleyville is directly attributable to the
Cubs. Just wondering what the lot at 1060 W Addison would
look like with a mall there instead?

Comment: I think the rooftop owners are extremely selfish.
They do not realize the Cubs are a professional baseball
team and not a team in business to make them money. I support
the expansion which will allow the cubs owners to make more
money and therefore, better players will be on the field.
Tickets will be more affordable for the fans. The only people
who oppose the expansion are the few rooftop owners who
obviously don't care if the cubs ever win a world series.

Comment: Let's face it, Wrigley Field is not only an attribute
to the city of Chicago, but to the game of baseball and
American's in general. Thousands of non-Chicago residents
visit Wrigley every season and spend some serious coin while
here. Without this minor facelift, Wrigley Field as we all
know it today, may not be available for younger generations
to appreciate. Rooftop owners...you don't have anything
without the Cubs and Wrigley Field. Support the expansion
and let's share the experience!

Comment: Expand Wrigley - what's the big deal about a few
posts on the sidewalks of Waveland & Sheffield - the need
to fix up the sidewalks anyways. As for safety concerns
- wrigleyville seems to be one of THE safest places in the
city. Traffic concerns? If you live in Chicago who doesn't
have them. If your build it they will come...
