Wrigley bricks to be installed in Trib Tower

On Friday at 11:30 a.m. CT, bricks from Wrigley Field and Comiskey Park will be permanently installed into the Indiana limestone exterior of historic Tribune Tower in downtown Chicago.

The bricks will join the 148 stones from around the world and all 50 states that are already part of the Tribune Tower’s façade, including artifacts from The Alamo, Great Wall of China, Taj Mahal, and Abraham Lincoln’s original tomb. The last artifact to be added to the building was tiles from the Sydney Opera House on May 17, 2006.

The tradition of displaying the stones originated with Col. Robert R. McCormick, legendary Tribune publisher and company president from 1911-1955 who requested correspondents bring back stones from their travels to add into the base of Tribune Tower.
