Report: Cubs sale clears anti-trust hurdle

September 8, 2009 9:27 AM

Tribune Co.’s sale of the Chicago Cubs to the Ricketts family has been approved by U.S. antitrust officials, Bloomberg News is reporting.

The antitrust approval was disclosed by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission on a list of proposed mergers permitted by antitrust officials, it said.

The Tribune, which owns the Chicago Tribune, agreed in August to sell a controlling stake in the team for $845 million.
