CHICAGO -- Alongside the candidates,
both Wrigley Field and Soldier Field appeared on the ballot
in a handful of precincts.
On the north side where the Chicago
Cubs organization is hoping to expand the bleacher section at
"The Friendly Confines," Wrigley neighbors were asked
to vote in a referendum.
Residents have expressed concern
over the added traffic and possible safety problems presented
by added attendance.
On election day, more than 1,000
voters in the Wrigley Field area decided the Cubs would have
to address those concerns before expanding the stadium.
Voters in four precincts near
Soldier Field were asked if the Chicago Bears should be allowed
to sell the naming rights to the stadium.
Only 270 people voted "yes"
to that resolution, with 729 "no" votes cast. While
the residents in the area have made their voice heard, this
was a non-binding resolution.
