Cubs to unveil updated Walk of Fame
The Chicago Cubs Marketing Department
today announced the updated Walk of Fame will be unveiled on
Friday, April 5 at the Cubs home opener.
The Walk of Fame, which honors
the contributions of players and staff in Cubs history, will
consist of 25 banners hanging throughout the main concourse
at Wrigley Field. The banners, which measure 4 feet by 7 feet,
will hang 13 feet off the concourse. Modern day players are
represented in full color while historical prints will appear
in sepia tones. Each banner will feature a photo of the honoree
as well as dates of service.
"We are paying tribute to
the greatest players in Cubs history," said John McDonough,
Cubs vice president of marketing and broadcasting. "This
is a symbolic representation of the history of the Cubs - from
broadcasters to batting champions to Cy Young Award Winners."
The Walk of Fame was established
in 1992. Members were selected through fan balloting in the
1990's. Inductees include Cap Anson, Ernie Banks, Jack Brickhouse,
Harry Caray, Andre Dawson, Ferguson Jenkins, Yosh Kawano, Ryne
Sandberg, Ron Santo, Sammy Sosa and Hack Wilson.
The original Walk of Fame, which
was located on the sidewalk at the corner of Clark and Addison,
was removed in December 2001 due to severe deterioration.
